Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why advertise with you?
Well, you may have found this website by many methods, but I'm guessing you are probably aware of the phenomenon for selling per-pixel adverts started by Alex Tew and his great "Million Dollar Homepage".

Since MDH started the trend, over 200 grids have popped up. Big Ben Pixels is unique and going to set the standard for the next generation by offering a very memorable adspace and enhanced features.

So? Well frankly, there are now two memorable places to advertise. The "Million Dollar Homepage" must be your first choice. It's expensive, but has the highest profile at the moment. Big Ben Pixels should be your next choice. Big Ben Pixels will be famous for it's very memorable grid, value for money and innovation.

2. So what improvements/extras are you offering?
Firstly, it is great value for money, at only £5 GBP per 10x10 block.

Secondly, there are ways to gain a free block. One is by linking back, another is by winning one from the banner design competition (see "Banners").

Thirdly, as well as your 10x10 block(s) you get a 150x75 hover image.

Fourthly, BBP will be playing strongly on it's unique and patriotic theme, using it and advertising revenue to buy more advertising and media attention.

3. Explain the concept of linking back to get a free 10x10 block...
Simple, if you buy at least one 10x10 block, and you provide a link back to Big Ben Pixels, I will give you a free 10x10 block.

Why do you want people to link back? Well, I want the website as busy as possible because that benefits everybody. If you link back, then your website customers will come and take a look (after finishing their visit your site) but importantly to YOU, other advertiser's customers will come and look around too, and maybe visit YOUR site. Networking to the maximum!

Remember, you are not losing customers by linking back, the link is on your website, hence your customers are seeing it during their visit to your website. Yes you're helping everyone else advertising on the tower, but conversely they'll be helping you in return with all the customers they send.

The products and services being advertised on the tower are very diverse, so if you are selling "dolls houses" it's unlikely you'll be sending your customers into the lap of many (if any) other doll's house websites.

4. How much does a block cost?
Blocks are 10x10 (100 pixels) and I only charge £5 UK pounds per 10x10 block.

I've looked around and most websites sell their blocks in 10x10 (100 pixels) and the cost is 100 US Dollars or about 56 UK Pounds (exchange rates at 10/10/05). Some sites are a straight 100 UK pounds for a 100 pixel block.

Comparing against some of the other 10x10 (100 pixels) block websites, I SAVE you £95 UK pounds!

...and that's before you earn a free block for linking back!

5. It's obviously a British website, do you accept worldwide adverts?
Yes, it's a proud British venture (or adventure) but I welcome adverts from worldwide. It will be vigorously marketed in the UK, but it's also a great place for an overseas company to get their products/services in front of a British audience.

6. How long do you plan to be online?
I plan 5 years minimum and that's my contract to you, that it will be live until October 2010 (and hopefully far beyond). I see no reason it shouldn't run for several years. So join quick to maximise your advertising time.

7. Can I change position later?
No, sorry. But if you have a genuine problem with a venture and want to redirect your advert somewhere else, then we can talk about that.

Maybe you can sell your prime position on eBay one day, who knows how this will evolve
...don't forget to cut me in :)

8. Will you publish visit stats, etc?
Yes hoping to, I'm looking at cool and accurate ways to display traffic.

9. OK. I want to buy blocks, how do I pay?
Secure online payment with PayPal or cheque, whatever you feel comfortable with. But I aim to get you up very quickly, so get working on those designs.

10. Don't you care about being seen as a copy-cat?
No. The Internet's a big place and there's room for everyone.

I am putting a new spin on a good idea. There's more than one style of car, computer, music, socks, etc, etc, ad infinitum. That's gives the customer choice and evolution leads to ever better and cheaper products.
